If you happened to read yesterday’s post about how I had to rely on my wife to handle my very detailed hair care routine, you know that I was a little concerned about how that was going to go down. I did manage to do some of it myself but then the pain set in and I realized I was doing too much lol! Now, she wasn’t nearly as gentle as I would have liked her to be, especially with the detangling part, but everything else went pretty smoothly. And I must say, she was an absolute pro with the diffuser. Other than a little frizz due to the fact that she couldn’t stop playing with my curls before they were dry, my hair is on point. My curls are bouncy, fluffy and springy and my hair is properly and thoroughly moisturized. I’m very impressed. I should probably get her to do it more often even after I’m healed, just to give myself a break…definitely worth a shot!
Hey loves, it’s a rainy day here in Northern Virginia and I’m home alone…laid out and trying to hold off on taking my pain meds. I’m not one for popping pills unless I absolutely have to and the pain from my recent surgery hasn’t made it necessary today…not yet anyway.
So as all people in the natural/curly hair community know, wash day can be a bit of a hassle, quite an ordeal. Now, being that I have had to neglect my hair since this past Thursday due to being medicated and not being able to reach my arms up over my head, my hair is a hot mess and it’s wash day. What does that mean? Well, there are very specific steps curly girls have to take in maintaining our fabulous curls. First, I’m going to need to do an oil rinse…that’s just heating up my Jamaican black castor oil and rinsing my hair before shampooing. I just recently started using castor oil after learning all of the benefits of it and I must say, my hair has been loving it! After shampooing I’m going to have to deep condition. It’s been almost three weeks since I’ve done that and normally I like to do it once a week. Curly girls know that deep conditioning is a must!
After that I have to apply my leave in conditioner, my vitamin E oil to seal in the moisture and seal my ends and finally whatever curl defining cream I choose…I have plenty. I posted an instagram pic earlier of my hair product collection. It’s safe to say I’m a product junkie and I will never run out of hair care products. Last but not least these curls will have to be diffused. I used to let my hair air dry but I’ve found that my curls are less frizzy, more defined and last longer if I diffuse.
Here’s where my dilemma comes in….I can’t do any of that myself. So who do I have to trust my hair with? My loving wife, who knows absolutely nothing about how to care for my hair. Don’t get me wrong, she can go and buy every product that I use or have even thought about using, but she’s clueless as to what each product is used for and in what order they need to be applied. She’ll give it 110% because that’s just the type of person she is. But if it turns out to be a fail I can always put my lion’s mane up into a bun. This will definitely be interesting!!
