Fall Favorites & Flops

Happy Thursday loves! The weekend is almost here and with it, the beginning of December! Am I the only one excited?!! I’m doing a little Christmas shopping today and some more decorating but the time really has slipped away from me because I wanted to do this post on my Fall favs/flops like 2 weeks ago. I’ve accumulated a ton of products since way back in September so today, finally I’m going to share the best and the worst of them. Luckily I’ve been obsessing over a lot of them so the “flop” list is kind of short.

So let’s start with the flops.

Sigma Beauty “After Glow” Liquid Highlighter. Back in September I was on a highlighting spree and I don’t remember ever purchasing anything from Sigma so I decided to give them a shot. I thought this highlighter was going to be gold in color but when I put it on it was actually more of a  light pink. It’s not very highlighting but I’m thinking it could be used as a blush, a very light and subtle blush. It also comes with a brush applicator which I just didn’t like at all. I can’t remember what I paid for it because it was so long ago and it was on sale but it’s a fairly small tube so I feel like it’s not worth purchasing at all. Sigma Beauty Highlighter, Afterglow, Sigm Beauty Cosmetics

Also from Sigma, I bought the “Sultry” Shimmer Cream Highlighter. This particular shade can be used for contour and bronzing as well as highlighting. The reason it was a fail for me is because of the fact that it is absolutely NOT a highlighter. It’s really creamy and dries down very quickly so it’s great for bronzing which is what I’ve been using it for. But there’s no highlighting affect whatsoever. Again, it was on sale back in September so I’m not sure what I paid for it but it’s currently on sale again on Sigma’s website if you’re interested. Although I won’t be repurchasing. Sigma Beauty, Sultry Shimmer Cream Highlighter, Sigma Beauty Cosmetics

The last and final disappointing product I bought was the Milk Holographic Stick. I bought the shade “Mars” because the other one, “Supernova” is purple looking and I already knew that wasn’t going to work out for my life. Again, I thought I was getting a golden, peachy, pearly type of situation with this highlighter. I knew it had pink hues in it from the description but it also says that it adjusts to every skin tone. It literally just stayed pink on my skin and it has all these extra flecks of shimmer which I don’t like. It has a nice sheen to it which I would probably love if not for the pink. It was $28 and such a waste because I’m definitely not going to use it.

On to my favorites!! I’ll start with a highlighter that is actually worth the hype and the money…Marc Jacobs Coconut Gel Highlighter. I love this highlighter!! It’s lightweight and has a really light, dewy sheen finish. You can wear it by itself, over, under or mixed in your foundation. And it smells amazing!! I also like the fact that it has a pump applicator. It’s my go-to highlighter right now. $44 well spent!

Another great product by Marc Jacobs that I came across was the Marvelous Mousse Foundation. I actually found it at T.J. Maxx. If y’all didn’t know, you can find really good high-end makeup for a fraction of the price at T.J. Maxx. I paid around $12 for this and it’s $55 at Sephora. I picked up two, “Beige Deep” and “Beige Light” because I wasn’t sure which shade was going to match the best. They both actually work but since we’re into cold weather now and my complexion is a little lighter I’ve being wearing “Beige Light”. This foundation blends in seamlessly and looks like your natural skin. It’s buildable but it’s not heavy on the skin at all. It has a soft matte finish and it lasts ALL day long. This has made it to the top of my list of all time favorite foundations!

Moving on but staying on foundations, number two on my all time favorites list is the Fenty Beauty Pro Filter Soft Matte Longwear Foundation. It took me forever to get my hands on this because the shade I needed(290) was sold out for the longest time. But I finally got it and I’m obsessed! First of all, they’re not lying when they say it’s longwear. It does not move….at all. I’ve worn it from around 9am til around 10 or 11pm several times and it didn’t break up, I didn’t get oily and never once had to touch it up. The way it looks when I put it on is the way it looks when I take it off. It’s light weight but still full coverage. It just looks like your natural skin but better. I like the fact that the price isn’t outrageous, it’s only $34. For it to be such a good product and by a celebrity, you’d think it would cost more. I’m so impressed with this foundation. Rihanna seriously did her thing!Fenty Beauty, Pro Filter Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, Fenty Beauty Foundation

So the next four products I’m just going to group together because they’re part of the Peaches & Cream Collection from Too Faced. The Primed & Peachy Cooling Matte Skin Perfecting Primer($32) is one of the best mattifying primers hands down. If you have oily skin or you just like the matte look then you need this in your life! If you don’t have a foundation that’s going to stay in place until you remove it, this stuff will do the trick. It has a slight cooling effect which is nice and it really smooths your skin out for perfect makeup application. Then we have the Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation($36). I have the shade “Warm Beige”. This is now my third all time favorite foundation. It’s oil-free, oil controlling and long-lasting. It’s pretty much the same as the Marc Jacobs and Fenty Beauty foundation in that it blends right into your skin for a very natural look, it’s lightweight but still full coverage, and it has a soft matte finish. It’s just a really great product at an affordable price. I also had to grab the Peach Mist Mattifying Spray($32). This setting spray will lock your makeup into place like nobody’s business! It’s super mattifying so there will be no oil and absolutely no shine. It’s really refreshing and I like that it doesn’t leave that sticky feeling like some setting sprays, especially mattifying ones. The last product I got from this collection is the Peach Perfect Mattifying Loose Setting Powder($32). I’ve only used this a few times because I’ve been using the setting spray and I feel like I don’t need to use both, that’s a lot of matte going on lol! But I have used it to set under my eyes and I usually have a problem with doing that no matter what powder I use, it just causes creasing and makes the wrinkles under my eyes more noticeable. But that didn’t happen at all with this powder. It’s so light and smooth and has a bright silky finish. It’s also very mattifying so I’m just going to alternate between that and the setting spray. Setting powders don’t impress me much but I really like this one. And let me just say, the bonus to all four of these products….they smell amazing!! Typical for Too Faced Cosmetics. Too Faced Peaches and Cream Collection, Too Faced Cosmetics, Primed & Peachy Mattifying Primer, Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation, Peach Perfect Mattifying Setting Powder, Peach Mist Mattifying Setting Spray

Finally to the end, the last two things that made it on my Fall Favorites list are two satin lipsticks from Dose of Colors. I bought the shade “Butterscotch” and “Toast” for $17 each. I’m still heavy into nude lipsticks even for fall and winter. Nudes have just become my go-to thing for lipstick. Dose of Colors has really good quality lipsticks and products in general. I just thought these two were the perfect nudes for any look. They’re really all I’ve been wearing for the past few months other than my Too Faced Peach Oil lip Gloss, sometimes I’ll layer that over the shade “Toast”. These are definitely my favorite lipsticks right now. They go on smooth with a semi-matte finish. I definitely plan on purchasing a few more.

So there you have it, my somewhat long list of Favorites/Flops for Fall. I hope you enjoyed. Thanks so much for stopping by!

e.l.f. Mini Haul+Review

Hey beautiful people! Are you all ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow? I definitely am but I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. I’m exited for 2018 just the same.

So today I wanted to share my thoughts on a couple of products from e.l.f. Cosmetics. They’ve come out with a lot of great products lately and as you know their stuff is very budget friendly. Lets get into it…

The first two things out of the four I picked up are the Beautifully Bare Smooth Matte Eyeshadows. I’ve been really into nude and natural everyday looks for a while now so I grabbed the shades “Blushing Rose” and “Soft Beige”. There are four shades total and they sell for $4 on the e.l.f. website. I really like these shadows because they’re lightweight, very pigmented, easy to apply and long-lasting. For $4 what more can you ask for, right?  If you haven’t given these try I highly recommend that you do!

The next thing I decided to try was the Oil Control Primer. I just cannot resist buying anything that says “oil control” even though I have a ton of such primers, setting sprays and foundations. This particular product was a total fail and waste of $8. It’s a water based priming mist that is supposed to prep and hydrate your skin leaving a matte finish. It definitely hydrated my skin to the point where it was extra oily, even with me using a matte foundation and matte setting spray. I even used it without makeup just to see and still ended up with THE MOST shine. Another thing I didn’t like about it was the amount of force the spray comes out with. It’s so harsh so you definitely need to hold it way back from your face when spraying. If any of you have tried it I’d love to know how it worked out for you.

And finally, I picked up their “California” Baked Eyeshadow Palette for $10. Another fail. The shadows are extremely dry and not pigmented at all, not even wetting them helped. I had to swatch them 3-4 times in order for them to show up. The colors would be so pretty if they were more pigmented. There’s absolutely nothing I could do with this palette which was kind of disappointing.

It’s not like I spend a huge amount of money, so overall I’m not terribly upset. I do love the eyeshadows though!

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!!

Maybelline Facestudio Master Strobing Stick/Liquid Illuminating Highlighter Review

I’m back with another review today, sharing my thoughts on the Master Strobing Illuminating Highlighter Stick & Liquid by Maybelline. I picked these products up at CVS for $9.99 each. I love liquid and cream highlighters so when I saw these I couldn’t resist.

Both of these products can be worn alone or together. Let’s talk about the liquid highlighter. If I’m not mistaken, there are only 3 shades. I looked in other stores as well as online and only found these 3, “Light Iridescent”, “Medium Nude Glow” and the one I grabbed “Deep Gold”. I tried this first by itself with my beauty blender and it completely disappeared as if I hadn’t put anything on at all. The next time I tried to blend it in with my finger and it still didn’t work for me. It looked like I had been wearing it all day and it had worn off. In order for it to show up and pop the way a highlighter should, you have to apply a ton of it which ends up making a mess. You’re supposed to be able to mix this in with your primer or foundation the same as most other liquid highlighters, but I really don’t see it working that way either. Worn by itself, this highlighter is a fail in my opinion.

Moving on to the highlighting stick. I picked up the shade “Nude Glow” and the other shade they have is “Light Iridescent”. I hated the way this looked. It dried almost instantly which made it hard to blend in with a beauty blender or my finger, and when I used a brush some of the product came off and what was left looked patchy and awful . It has a nice little sheen to it(before blending) but I would never choose it over any other highlighter that I have.

When worn together they provide a slight highlighting effect that is somewhat workable if you’re not big on highlight. Still not something I’d ever reach for. Another negative is that neither of them last long at all, they wear off very easily. Overall, I’m just not impressed with either of these products.

Have you tried either of these? Comment your thoughts!

Urban Decay, Meltdown Makeup Remover Review

Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover Review

Hi guys! It feels like I haven’t posted in forever! Actually it’s been about two months because…well, life. But I’m back now and I wanted to do this review before I head off to Florida Friday then I’ll have tomorrow and Thursday to finish up the rest of my homework for the week. Let’s get into it…

What it is: Oil free dissolving spray containing Vitamin E

What it does: Dissolves waterproof makeup instantly

Cost: $26.00

Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover, Dissolving Spray, Review

Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover

I purchased this last month because I was actually in need of more makeup remover and I had seen this all over Instagram and Snapchat so I decided to give it ago. First off, I hate the smell. It has a strong chemical smell and it just doesn’t smell like something you’d want to put on your face. Another thing I don’t like about it is that it’s super greasy/oily. I feel like I have to wash my face two or three times to get it completely off and some scrubbing is needed which kind of defeats the purpose, because the whole point is that this product removes waterproof and hard to remove makeup without having to scrub and tug on your skin. With all that said, it does an excellent job of removing ALL makeup. I have some pretty hardcore mascaras that are a pain to wash off and even those wipe right off with this spray. So it absolutely does what it claims. Would I buy it again? I don’t think so. I really can’t get past the smell. I’m going to finish using what I have left because it works really well, but I literally hold my breath while I wipe it off my face. In my opinion there are other makeup removers that work just as well, without the horrible smell and oily residue left behind.

Feel free to comment your thoughts about this product and tell me your favorite makeup remover. Thanks for stopping by!

February Favorites

Hey guys! I don’t know where the time is going but it’s getting away from me, *sigh. As usual, I’m a few days late with this but here’s the run down on my favorite products from February.

Milani Keep it Sweet Sugar Lip Scrub I always have to keep some kind of lip scrub handy so when I saw that Milani had one out I didn’t even think about it, I just grabbed it. It works really well and my lips feel nice and smooth afterwards. I love the way it smells. I use it every other day/night and especially before I wear any matte lipsticks. It’s $10 on the Milani website but I got it at Target for $8.99Milani, Sugar Lip Scrub, February Favorites

Maybelline Fit Me Matte+Poreless Powder So everybody has this or has tried it. I’ve seen so many good reviews and Youtube videos with this powder and from what I could tell, everyone loves it so I decided to finally try it. I got it from Target for $5.99. I’ve been wearing it alone to control oil and shine and I feel like I should’ve been using it a long time ago. It’s great. It doesn’t really do much for my pores but it does control the oil really well. I like the fact that it’s long lasting and I don’t have to reapply throughout the day. I haven’t tried it on top of foundation yet but I bought a few new liquid foundations that can’t wait to try it with.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer I picked this up for around $5 at Target, just because I bought the Fit Me powder and for other reason. It’s almost comparable to the Too Faced “Born This Way” concealer as far as the coverage, texture and consistency. It has good coverage, it’s really creamy and easy to blend into the skin. As with the Fit Me Powder…I should’ve picked this concealer up a long time ago. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer, Medium, February Favorites

Too Faced Sweet Peach Lip Oil I bought this last month when I did my huge Ulta/Sephora haul. It was $19. I got it in the shade “Papa Don’t Peach”. First of all, let me just tell you that it smells AMAZING!! Like, I want to eat it! In the description on Ulta’s website it does say that it tastes like peach, but I’m not suggesting that anyone eat it. I’ve been using this in the place of chapstick. It’s super creamy and moisturizing. This particular shade is subtle, yet noticeable so it’s perfect for everyday wear.

Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick I was so excited to get my hands on these because I love the Vice Lipsticks  and I love liquid lipsticks so I had to have these! I’ve been wearing “Conspiracy”(Metallized) which is a plum-bronze color. It looks like a deep dark purple and brown at the same time. It has little specs of gold that are just beautiful on the lips. The other shade I’ve been wearing is “Amulet”(Comfort Matte) which is a brick rose color. What I love the most is the lasting power. They seriously last all day, from morning to night. They don’t budge at all. I don’t even carry them with me when I go out because there’s no need to touch up or reapply throughout the day. They’re $18 and definitely worth it!

BareMinerals Gen Nude Liquid Lip Color & BareMinerals Gen Nude Over Under Lip Liner So this isn’t just one of my February favorites, this is currently my all time favorite liquid lipstick! I LOVE it! It’s matte but it goes on super creamy and feels really nice on the lips. It’s moisturizing so it doesn’t dry out at any point and it’s long lasting. I’ve worn this all day without having to reapply. Also, it smells good and y’all know how I feel about good smelling lipsticks! It’s only $18 and trust me I’m not complaining but I feel like it’s worth more. I’m just saying, it’s that good! As for the liner,  for $16 it’s one of the best ones I’ve come across. I love the finish and how pigmented it is. It applies easily and very creamy. I hate when a lip liner is so dry that it skips and doesn’t apply smoothly. This one is perfect!

Urban Decay B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Priming Spray  Ok, so I initially thought that this was just a regular setting spray and since I had run out of my All Nighter setting spray I just grabbed this. But, it’s not a setting spray, it’s a prep and priming/refresher spray that controls oil, balances the complexion and evens out the skin tone. You use it in the morning after washing your face but before applying moisturizer, then again at night in the same order. You can also use it during the day as a refresher and it won’t mess up your makeup. I’ve been using it daily and I’ve noticed that my skin looks brighter and healthier. My face doesn’t get quite as oily throughout the day as it used to. I use it morning and night, even when I don’t wear any makeup at all. Overtime it’s supposed to continue to reduce oil and shine, and improve the appearance of fine lines. Overall my skin does look and feel better, so I love it and I’m going to continue using it. For those of you who use any of Urban Decay’s setting sprays, this is the exact same price at $31.Urban Decay B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Priming Spray, Ulta

That’s everything that I’ve been obsessed with over the past month. I hope you enjoyed and maybe even saw something that you want to try! -Melyssa

Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops Review

I’m back with another not so good review of a product that I was sure I would love. As I mentioned in my last post, I bought a bunch of stuff from Ulta and Sephora a few weeks ago and this particular product was at the top of my “Must Have” list. Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops are available in 6 shades, I bought the shade “Sunlight”. These drops are supposed to add a highlighting or bronzing effect to your look. The drops can be used alone, mixed in with any liquid like your foundation, primer or moisturizer, or added on top of powder foundation.

I tried using this with no makeup, mixed in with my primers and liquid foundations but the result was always the same. It just caked up and looked flaky. It literally just sat on top of my skin and made my face look as if it were extremely dry and peeling, which wasn’t the case. It looked awful! Every time I used it I had to immediately wash my face because it completely ruined my makeup. When I used the drops without makeup, it seemed as if it was going to have a smooth application but after a few minutes I noticed that it wasn’t blending in or being absorbed into my skin, it just created a flaky layer of crust on my face. It’s a pretty lightweight liquid that looks thicker than it actually is.

This stuff is $42 which I didn’t mind at all because I had such high expectations but, that is sort of a high price for a sun-kissed glow, especially when there are less expensive products that do the same thing.  I thought this was going to end up being one of my favorite products. I really wanted to love it, especially since I do love the Cover FX Illuminating Primer. I was extremely disappointed, just another product that I have to return. Oh well,  hit or miss….that’s how it goes when trying new products. If you’ve tried these custom enhancer drops, let me know what you think! Did they work for you?

Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Extreme Review

Recently I went shopping and I did a huge Ulta/Sephora haul. So many new products are out and there were several things I had been wanting to try so I just ended up buying a ton of stuff. Lately I’ve been trying out new mascaras to see which ones I like and how they compare to my favorites. So, being a huge fan of Too Faced and the fact that their Better Than Sex mascara is one of my all time favorites, I was excited to try the Better Than False Lashes Extreme mascara. I was sure that it was going to be a great product because Too Faced could do no wrong as far as I was concerned. Well, I was sadly mistaken and utterly disappointed. This mascara has got to be THE WORST product they have EVER come out with!! Here’s the break down:

  • Step 1-Prime lashes with the mascara
  • Step 2-Build with the fibers
  • Step 3-Seal with the mascara

First of all, the fibers are super messy. I would assume that they would adhere to the lashes a little better, maybe sticking to the mascara applied in step 1. But no, they fell all over my face and into my eyes. I even tried not blinking until I reapplied the mascara in the last step to seal. The fall out from those fibers was awful and they burn when they get into your eyes. Secondly, after putting the mascara on again over the fibers it was clumpy, flaked off and made my lashes ridiculously hard. After only a few minutes of having this stuff on, my top and bottom waterline started itching. It was so bad. Even after I washed it off my eyes were still bothering me. This mascara is supposed to make your lashes longer and thicker. It did add length, I’ll give it that but it looked awful. My lashes were hard and sticking out in every direction. As far as making them thicker…yeah if you consider clumpy thicker. For $35 I expect so much better, no matter what brand it is. Now, it could be that I’m just allergic to this particular mascara and that’s why it bothered my eyes so much but even so, it still looked absolutely horrible. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it one more time because maybe the first time went wrong due to user error(not that there are too many ways to completely mess up putting on mascara). But again, it was a total disaster. Needless to say, I returned this product.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
