Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops Review

I’m back with another not so good review of a product that I was sure I would love. As I mentioned in my last post, I bought a bunch of stuff from Ulta and Sephora a few weeks ago and this particular product was at the top of my “Must Have” list. Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops are available in 6 shades, I bought the shade “Sunlight”. These drops are supposed to add a highlighting or bronzing effect to your look. The drops can be used alone, mixed in with any liquid like your foundation, primer or moisturizer, or added on top of powder foundation.

I tried using this with no makeup, mixed in with my primers and liquid foundations but the result was always the same. It just caked up and looked flaky. It literally just sat on top of my skin and made my face look as if it were extremely dry and peeling, which wasn’t the case. It looked awful! Every time I used it I had to immediately wash my face because it completely ruined my makeup. When I used the drops without makeup, it seemed as if it was going to have a smooth application but after a few minutes I noticed that it wasn’t blending in or being absorbed into my skin, it just created a flaky layer of crust on my face. It’s a pretty lightweight liquid that looks thicker than it actually is.

This stuff is $42 which I didn’t mind at all because I had such high expectations but, that is sort of a high price for a sun-kissed glow, especially when there are less expensive products that do the same thing.  I thought this was going to end up being one of my favorite products. I really wanted to love it, especially since I do love the Cover FX Illuminating Primer. I was extremely disappointed, just another product that I have to return. Oh well,  hit or miss….that’s how it goes when trying new products. If you’ve tried these custom enhancer drops, let me know what you think! Did they work for you?

Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Extreme Review

Recently I went shopping and I did a huge Ulta/Sephora haul. So many new products are out and there were several things I had been wanting to try so I just ended up buying a ton of stuff. Lately I’ve been trying out new mascaras to see which ones I like and how they compare to my favorites. So, being a huge fan of Too Faced and the fact that their Better Than Sex mascara is one of my all time favorites, I was excited to try the Better Than False Lashes Extreme mascara. I was sure that it was going to be a great product because Too Faced could do no wrong as far as I was concerned. Well, I was sadly mistaken and utterly disappointed. This mascara has got to be THE WORST product they have EVER come out with!! Here’s the break down:

  • Step 1-Prime lashes with the mascara
  • Step 2-Build with the fibers
  • Step 3-Seal with the mascara

First of all, the fibers are super messy. I would assume that they would adhere to the lashes a little better, maybe sticking to the mascara applied in step 1. But no, they fell all over my face and into my eyes. I even tried not blinking until I reapplied the mascara in the last step to seal. The fall out from those fibers was awful and they burn when they get into your eyes. Secondly, after putting the mascara on again over the fibers it was clumpy, flaked off and made my lashes ridiculously hard. After only a few minutes of having this stuff on, my top and bottom waterline started itching. It was so bad. Even after I washed it off my eyes were still bothering me. This mascara is supposed to make your lashes longer and thicker. It did add length, I’ll give it that but it looked awful. My lashes were hard and sticking out in every direction. As far as making them thicker…yeah if you consider clumpy thicker. For $35 I expect so much better, no matter what brand it is. Now, it could be that I’m just allergic to this particular mascara and that’s why it bothered my eyes so much but even so, it still looked absolutely horrible. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it one more time because maybe the first time went wrong due to user error(not that there are too many ways to completely mess up putting on mascara). But again, it was a total disaster. Needless to say, I returned this product.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

My Favorite Products from City Color Cosmetics

  • Two of a Kind Dual-Ended Lipstick “Dream Catcher” $3.00

City Color Cosmetics Matte Setting Spray, Matte Setting Spray

January Favorites

Huda Beauty Textured Shadows Palette, Rose Gold Edition This is one of my absolute favorite palettes!! I passed up on the Modern Renaissance palette because I felt like this was the better choice. They’re similar but this one has more shadows and I just couldn’t resist those textured shadows. It’s $65 but I promise it’s well worth it. The shadows are highly pigmented and buildable. You can create everyday looks or full on glam looks with this palette. The textured shadows need to be applied with your finger for best results. Although the packaging could’ve been better, especially for the price, this palette is absolutely stunning. I love it and highly recommend it!

Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Palette Ok, so these shadows aren’t the most pigmented but this is still a great palette. It’s good for subtle, everyday looks and the currently trending “No makeup” look. You can also do some pretty basic night-time looks as well. I’ve just been using it for quick and easy, simple looks. It really has all you need to create a full look without having to dip into another palette. It has your transition colors, crease color, outer corner and lid shades. You can even use “Free Spirit” & “Super Mom” to highlight the brow bone. The packaging is nice and I love the big mirror. It’s a nice palette for $46.

Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator This is my favorite highlighter next to the Anastasia Glow Kit. I have it in “Gilded Honey” and it is just gorgeous! I apply it with my beauty blender and I spray a little setting spray on it just to give it a little extra pop but, it’s beautiful on its own. It gives the most perfect, natural glow and it’s easily buildable. It’s also travel friendly. I wish that it was slightly bigger and contained a little more product for $26 but overall it’s one of the best highlighters hands down!

Laura Geller Primer, Spackle Mattifying, oil control primer review

Laura Geller Spackle Mattifying Primer This is my new favorite primer! It provides a mattifying effect that lasts all day, keeps the shine away and makes my skin smooth. It has Shea butter in it so it’s moisturizing. It has a silky feel to it and goes on very smoothly. The price is $32. There is nothing that I dislike about this primer.

Cover FX Illuminating Primer Review, Cover FX Illuminating Primer

I received this in one of my subscription boxes a couple of months ago and decided to test it out recently. The illuminating effect of this primer is beautiful. I’ve used it under every foundation that I own, powder and liquid. A little goes a long way with this one. It’s not greasy and doesn’t make my face shine, which I was worried about since I have oily skin. It just provides a natural looking glow. I plan on buying it once I’ve used up some of my other primers. The cost is $38.

Milani Color Statement Lipsticks I love Milani lipsticks! They’re affordable, you can find them anywhere and they’re only $6! The packaging is really pretty and all of the Milani lipsticks smell amazing, even the liquid lipsticks. I cannot get enough of these two shades. I’ve been stuck on nude shades lately and “Bahama Breeze” is the best. It goes on creamy and stays that way. I’m obsessed with “Bronze Beauty”! I thought it was going to be drying for some reason but it’s just as smooth and creamy as the rest of their lipsticks. I love the shimmer it has, so pretty! These lipsticks, like the rest, are very pigmented and long-lasting.

MDM flow Lipstick I received this in one of my Glossy Boxes before I cancelled my subscription. I had never heard of this brand before but I instantly loved this lipstick! “Bossy” is the perfect nude! It’s semi-matte, long-lasting and not drying. I love the sleek packaging. The price is around $19. You can check out the rest of their lipsticks here.

That wraps up my favorites from January. Thanks for stopping by!

Drugstore Mascara: My top pick

I’ve been trying out different types of mascara lately. I have my favorite luxury mascaras, of course but I wanted to give the drugstore brands a chance to wow me as well. I went on a little CVS/WalMart haul the other day to grab some products that I’ve been wanting to try, including mascara. I picked up the following four from WalMart….

COVERGIRL Plumpify blastPRO This is supposed to create a dramatic full lash look by plumping and lifting the lashes from the root. It was an instant fail! It left clumps on my lashes with the first stroke. After cleaning the wand I gave it another try on my other eye, but the same thing happened. It left my lashes stuck together in a black, clumpy mess. It was only around $8 but I was still disappointed that it was so messy and didn’t do anything that it claimed to do. Never again!

COVERGIRL, Plumpify blastPRO mascara

COVERGIRL Plumpify blastPRO

COVERGIRL Lashblast Volume Waterproof Mascara Claims to give you 10 times more volume. It cost $6.25 and while this one didn’t clump or make my lashes stick together like the blastPRO, it didn’t add any volume either. It had absolutely no effect whatsoever. On that note, I probably won’t purchase any other COVERGIRL mascara.

COVERGIRL, lashblast VOLUME, mascara

Wet n Wild Max Volume Plus Waterproof Hydrofuge Claims to increase the volume of your lashes with no clumping or smudging. It’s only $4 so whatever the outcome is I feel like you can’t get too upset. I didn’t notice any difference with the first two coats but after applying one or two more there was some progress. My lashes were definitely darker and there was some added length. There was no clumping and my lashes were separated and lifted. I can’t see any dramatic lash looks being created with this mascara but it’s great for everyday use or when you just want to do a little less makeup.

Wet n Wild, Max Volume Plus Waterproof Hydrofuge, mascara

Wet n Wild MAX VOLUME PLUS Waterproof Hydrofuge

MAYBELLINE Lash Sensational Full Fan Effect For $6.25 and no different from any other mascara in its claim to add volume, this one supposedly takes it a step further by creating a “fan effect”, fanning out your lashes. I’ve seen several YouTubers using this which is what prompted me to try it. It took two coats for me to notice any difference. It didn’t create the “fan effect” that it claims to but it did darken, lengthen and curl my lashes enough that I felt it was workable. It’s washable and though I prefer waterproof mascara, I wasn’t disappointed. It didn’t smudge, run or leave any clumps. If you’re going for a full on glam or dramatic look, I wouldn’t recommend this mascara. It’s better for simple, everyday looks.

Maybelline Lash Sensational

Considering all points…price, what the products claim to do and the actual results, I’d have to say that my top pick out of the four is the Wet n Wild Max Volume Plus. Wet n Wild has really stepped their game up lately so I was excited to try this mascara. What really caught my interest was the fact that it’s formulated with Macadamia Nut, Jojoba and Olive oils to condition the lashes and prevent breakage. I wasn’t at all disappointed with this product. I will be wearing it on a daily basis and repurchasing.

My second choice would be the Maybelline Lash Sensational. If you’re looking for something affordable, for everyday use or something you can wear under false lashes I’d recommend this one. It’s pretty decent and I’d probably buy it again.

November Favorites

Hey guys! Can you believe it’s December already!?? Where has the time gone? I swear this year has gone by in the blink of an eye, but it’s been a great year for me & my family. I know that I’ve skipped a few months but I’ve rounded up my November favorites. Let’s see which products made the list!

First up is the Too Faced Mascara Melt Off. I received it in my first Glossy Box and completely forgot about it. The first time I used it I was wearing The Waterproof version of Better Than Sex by Too Faced which can be kind of hard to remove, depending on what you use. But, it came right off with the Melt Off remover. I didn’t have to wipe my eyes continuously or wash my face more than once. You can check out my initial post from when I first got it here.Too Faced, Mascara Melt Off, Too Faced Cosmetics, Mascara

The next thing that easily secured a spot on my favorites list is the Neutrogena Shine Control Primer. I’m always on the lookout for anything that will help control and minimize oil & shine. I came across this primer while I was doing a little online shopping and figured I’d give it a try. Instant favorite!! I don’t use it as an all over primer, just in the spots that get oily. It has rice protein complex which really works to absorb oil and it’s long-lasting. I use it even when I’m not wearing makeup.Neutrogena Shine Control, Neutrogena, Primer, Neutrogena Cosmetics

I’ve also been using the Defense Refresh Setting Mist w/SPF 50 from Supergoop. It’s a 3 in 1 mist with a matte finish, it sets your makeup, controls oil & it has UV protection.  I only use it when I’m wearing makeup but combined with the primer from Neutrogena, oil & shine have absolutely no chance! I love the way it smells too, it contains mint & rosemary so there’s a light, refreshing scent. This was in my August allure Beauty Box.Supergoop, Setting Mist, Mattifying Setting Mist

Another little jewel that I got from GlossyBox is MTJ Cosmetics High Definition Mascara. I had been using this on and off since I got it back in September but just recently started using it regularly. It really lengthens and darkens my lashes. I don’t know about you guys, but I love my lashes to be the blackest of black lol! This mascara does it.  It doesn’t clump and I don’t even have to use the eyelash curler, it’s that good. It lengthens, curls and blackens those lashes honey…love it!!MTJ High Definition Mascara, MTJ, High Definition Mascara

Since all the light brown highlight has grown out of my hair, I stopped using dark brown brow color and started using black again. I bought several different brow products because a girls gotta have options, but the first one I got and the only one I’ve been using is Colour Pop’s “Jet Set Black” Creme Gel Brow Color. I love it because it’s easy to work with, it has a really smooth application and it’s long-lasting. Besides that, it’s only $6.  You seriously can’t go wrong with Colour Pop.

One of the brands that I’m loving right now is IT Cosmetics. I recently purchased quite a few of their products from Ulta. I love everything that I bought but what I love the most is the Color Correcting Full Coverage + Anti-Aging Serum CC Cream. I honestly don’t know what made me pick it up, I think I was just on a roll grabbing IT products lol! I’m glad I grabbed it though. At first, I felt like it was too heavy but after using it a few times I was able to work with it. It looks very natural and blends out seamlessly. IT Cosmetics, CC Cream, Anti-Aging Serum

Moving closer to the top of my list we have a blush from Wet n Wild. I was pleasantly surprised with their Color Icon Blush. It was one of those things I bought “just because”. I was in Five Below and couldn’t resist going over to check out the budget friendly cosmetics. I picked up the color Apri-cot in the Middle. It’s so pigmented, I wasn’t expecting that at all! It’s light weight and has the perfect amount of sheen. I absolutely love the color! It’s an everyday wear for me.  If you didn’t know…Wet n Wild is doing their thing!Wet n Wild, Wet n Wild Blush, Coloricon Blush, Apri-cot in the middle, Cruelty-free Blush

Of course I had to save the best for last! Let me just tell you about these Tarteist PRO cruelty-free Lashes…hands down the BEST lashes! First off, their cruelty-free and you’ve gotta love that. Secondly, they’re GORGEOUS!! Now, I’m not a huge lash person so I really don’t like to spend a lot of money on them or even spend too much time looking at any but for some reason these caught my eye the minute they came out. The first pair I bought were the more natural looking ones in the style “Little Black Dress”. I usually struggle to put lashes on(please don’t judge me), but these went on effortlessly and they looked amazing. I swear they are everything I’ve ever wanted in false lashes. Which is precisely why I ordered a second pair, this time I got them in the style “Flirt”. These are more for lengthening. I just love them!  Seriously the best final touch to any look and they’re perfectly priced at just $12!!

That’s everything I wanted to share from November. I hoped you enjoyed. Tell me what your favorites were from last month, I’d love to know. Anything from my list?
