I Cut & Straightened My Hair+New Hair Care Products

For the past 3 1/2 years I’ve been wearing my hair in its natural state which is curly. I made that choice after noticing that using a flat iron everyday had caused my hair to start breaking off. That was it, no more heat. But, over the past few months I noticed that my curls weren’t as curly and my hair was more poofy and frizzy. I literally couldn’t do anything with it other than wear it in a bun…everyday. So after going back and forth with myself for a while, I decided to cut it and wear it straight for a while before transitioning back to curls. The damage has been cut off and I know how to properly care for my hair now so I’m confident that I’ll be able to pull this look off without damaging my hair again. Curly hair is so hard to care for and it’s time consuming, not to mention the expensive curly hair products that will just about cause you to go bankrupt! I’ve never cut my hair before other than a trim here and there for split ends and I thought I was going to miss having long hair but honestly I’m loving it! It’s so much easier to deal with.Β wp-1487868384271.jpg

Of course with having my hair straight again that meant I had to switch up on the hair products that I had been using. My hair curls back up when I wash it but I don’t want to use products that are specifically for curly hair or anything that’s going to define my curls. So, here are the products I’m currently using…

Proclaim Jamaican Black Castor Oil ShampooProclaim Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Shampoo, Sally Beauty Supply

Proclaim Jamaican Black Castor Oil ConditionerProclaim Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Conditioner, Sally Beauty Supply

Proclaim Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-in ConditionerProclaim Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Leave-in Conditioner, Sally Beauty Supply

Proclaim Coconut Oil Anti Breakage Deep ConditionerProclaim Coconut Oil Anti-Breakage Deep Conditioner, Sally Beauty

These products seem to be working well for my hair and the best part is that they’re all under $10 and available atΒ Sally Beauty Supply. I’m still going to experiment with different products to see what works best but for now I’m satisfied with these products and I love my new hairstyle!

    Greetings Melyssa!

What a delight to return to your blog! When I spent February with my baby sis in Florida, she introduced me to the Shea Moisture Black Castor Oil line and I’d brought with me Jamaican Black Castor Oil! I loved them all. Now I’ll try the products you’ve included here.

I love learning about different products to care for my natural hair!

Thank you for such beautiful posts.

You are most welcome! I appreciate you following me on my natural hair journey!! I’m going for waist length in four to five years. What are you Natural Hair goals? Did you blog that theme already? πŸ™‚

I just want to be able to retain my length, and get my curls back to a healthier state. Of course that meant first, I had to chop most of it off. And so…I’ll begin again. I actually like having short hair, never thought I’d say that! Lol!

Those are admirable natural hair goals! And you are just as pretty with short hair. But Melyssa, have you ever pondered filming your Natural Hair journey on your YouTube channel? I think that would be so cool! Yet I do understand that you’d have to want to do that, because it does demand so much of your time! πŸ™‚ But I LOVE it!

That makes sense, Melyssa! Oh goodness, I must edit and upload this morning before I sleep. I’m caught between uploading to 2 channels, wanting to upload twice a week for both channels. Now you know that is full-time status! Hmmm. I shall be caught trying, yet I believe I’m resolved to once a week for each channel!!! πŸ™‚ You will do it when the time is right! Yeaaaah!!!
