I Cut & Straightened My Hair+New Hair Care Products

For the past 3 1/2 years I’ve been wearing my hair in its natural state which is curly. I made that choice after noticing that using a flat iron everyday had caused my hair to start breaking off. That was it, no more heat. But, over the past few months I noticed that my curls weren’t as curly and my hair was more poofy and frizzy. I literally couldn’t do anything with it other than wear it in a bun…everyday. So after going back and forth with myself for a while, I decided to cut it and wear it straight for a while before transitioning back to curls. The damage has been cut off and I know how to properly care for my hair now so I’m confident that I’ll be able to pull this look off without damaging my hair again. Curly hair is so hard to care for and it’s time consuming, not to mention the expensive curly hair products that will just about cause you to go bankrupt! I’ve never cut my hair before other than a trim here and there for split ends and I thought I was going to miss having long hair but honestly I’m loving it! It’s so much easier to deal with. wp-1487868384271.jpg

Of course with having my hair straight again that meant I had to switch up on the hair products that I had been using. My hair curls back up when I wash it but I don’t want to use products that are specifically for curly hair or anything that’s going to define my curls. So, here are the products I’m currently using…

These products seem to be working well for my hair and the best part is that they’re all under $10 and available at Sally Beauty Supply. I’m still going to experiment with different products to see what works best but for now I’m satisfied with these products and I love my new hairstyle!

Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops Review

I’m back with another not so good review of a product that I was sure I would love. As I mentioned in my last post, I bought a bunch of stuff from Ulta and Sephora a few weeks ago and this particular product was at the top of my “Must Have” list. Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops are available in 6 shades, I bought the shade “Sunlight”. These drops are supposed to add a highlighting or bronzing effect to your look. The drops can be used alone, mixed in with any liquid like your foundation, primer or moisturizer, or added on top of powder foundation.

I tried using this with no makeup, mixed in with my primers and liquid foundations but the result was always the same. It just caked up and looked flaky. It literally just sat on top of my skin and made my face look as if it were extremely dry and peeling, which wasn’t the case. It looked awful! Every time I used it I had to immediately wash my face because it completely ruined my makeup. When I used the drops without makeup, it seemed as if it was going to have a smooth application but after a few minutes I noticed that it wasn’t blending in or being absorbed into my skin, it just created a flaky layer of crust on my face. It’s a pretty lightweight liquid that looks thicker than it actually is.

This stuff is $42 which I didn’t mind at all because I had such high expectations but, that is sort of a high price for a sun-kissed glow, especially when there are less expensive products that do the same thing.  I thought this was going to end up being one of my favorite products. I really wanted to love it, especially since I do love the Cover FX Illuminating Primer. I was extremely disappointed, just another product that I have to return. Oh well,  hit or miss….that’s how it goes when trying new products. If you’ve tried these custom enhancer drops, let me know what you think! Did they work for you?

Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Extreme Review

Recently I went shopping and I did a huge Ulta/Sephora haul. So many new products are out and there were several things I had been wanting to try so I just ended up buying a ton of stuff. Lately I’ve been trying out new mascaras to see which ones I like and how they compare to my favorites. So, being a huge fan of Too Faced and the fact that their Better Than Sex mascara is one of my all time favorites, I was excited to try the Better Than False Lashes Extreme mascara. I was sure that it was going to be a great product because Too Faced could do no wrong as far as I was concerned. Well, I was sadly mistaken and utterly disappointed. This mascara has got to be THE WORST product they have EVER come out with!! Here’s the break down:

  • Step 1-Prime lashes with the mascara
  • Step 2-Build with the fibers
  • Step 3-Seal with the mascara

First of all, the fibers are super messy. I would assume that they would adhere to the lashes a little better, maybe sticking to the mascara applied in step 1. But no, they fell all over my face and into my eyes. I even tried not blinking until I reapplied the mascara in the last step to seal. The fall out from those fibers was awful and they burn when they get into your eyes. Secondly, after putting the mascara on again over the fibers it was clumpy, flaked off and made my lashes ridiculously hard. After only a few minutes of having this stuff on, my top and bottom waterline started itching. It was so bad. Even after I washed it off my eyes were still bothering me. This mascara is supposed to make your lashes longer and thicker. It did add length, I’ll give it that but it looked awful. My lashes were hard and sticking out in every direction. As far as making them thicker…yeah if you consider clumpy thicker. For $35 I expect so much better, no matter what brand it is. Now, it could be that I’m just allergic to this particular mascara and that’s why it bothered my eyes so much but even so, it still looked absolutely horrible. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it one more time because maybe the first time went wrong due to user error(not that there are too many ways to completely mess up putting on mascara). But again, it was a total disaster. Needless to say, I returned this product.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

January Favorites

Huda Beauty Textured Shadows Palette, Rose Gold Edition This is one of my absolute favorite palettes!! I passed up on the Modern Renaissance palette because I felt like this was the better choice. They’re similar but this one has more shadows and I just couldn’t resist those textured shadows. It’s $65 but I promise it’s well worth it. The shadows are highly pigmented and buildable. You can create everyday looks or full on glam looks with this palette. The textured shadows need to be applied with your finger for best results. Although the packaging could’ve been better, especially for the price, this palette is absolutely stunning. I love it and highly recommend it!

Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Palette Ok, so these shadows aren’t the most pigmented but this is still a great palette. It’s good for subtle, everyday looks and the currently trending “No makeup” look. You can also do some pretty basic night-time looks as well. I’ve just been using it for quick and easy, simple looks. It really has all you need to create a full look without having to dip into another palette. It has your transition colors, crease color, outer corner and lid shades. You can even use “Free Spirit” & “Super Mom” to highlight the brow bone. The packaging is nice and I love the big mirror. It’s a nice palette for $46.

Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator This is my favorite highlighter next to the Anastasia Glow Kit. I have it in “Gilded Honey” and it is just gorgeous! I apply it with my beauty blender and I spray a little setting spray on it just to give it a little extra pop but, it’s beautiful on its own. It gives the most perfect, natural glow and it’s easily buildable. It’s also travel friendly. I wish that it was slightly bigger and contained a little more product for $26 but overall it’s one of the best highlighters hands down!

Laura Geller Primer, Spackle Mattifying, oil control primer review

Laura Geller Spackle Mattifying Primer This is my new favorite primer! It provides a mattifying effect that lasts all day, keeps the shine away and makes my skin smooth. It has Shea butter in it so it’s moisturizing. It has a silky feel to it and goes on very smoothly. The price is $32. There is nothing that I dislike about this primer.

Cover FX Illuminating Primer Review, Cover FX Illuminating Primer

I received this in one of my subscription boxes a couple of months ago and decided to test it out recently. The illuminating effect of this primer is beautiful. I’ve used it under every foundation that I own, powder and liquid. A little goes a long way with this one. It’s not greasy and doesn’t make my face shine, which I was worried about since I have oily skin. It just provides a natural looking glow. I plan on buying it once I’ve used up some of my other primers. The cost is $38.

Milani Color Statement Lipsticks I love Milani lipsticks! They’re affordable, you can find them anywhere and they’re only $6! The packaging is really pretty and all of the Milani lipsticks smell amazing, even the liquid lipsticks. I cannot get enough of these two shades. I’ve been stuck on nude shades lately and “Bahama Breeze” is the best. It goes on creamy and stays that way. I’m obsessed with “Bronze Beauty”! I thought it was going to be drying for some reason but it’s just as smooth and creamy as the rest of their lipsticks. I love the shimmer it has, so pretty! These lipsticks, like the rest, are very pigmented and long-lasting.

MDM flow Lipstick I received this in one of my Glossy Boxes before I cancelled my subscription. I had never heard of this brand before but I instantly loved this lipstick! “Bossy” is the perfect nude! It’s semi-matte, long-lasting and not drying. I love the sleek packaging. The price is around $19. You can check out the rest of their lipsticks here.

That wraps up my favorites from January. Thanks for stopping by!
