Hey everyone! I hope you all are enjoying your weekend so far. We’ve been out all day, first we took the boys to an arcade called Ultra Zone, then we hung out at National Harbor for a while and we just checked into a hotel for the night. We decided to stay away from the beaches and amusement parks to avoid the ridiculously large crowds of people. Those are first two places everyone goes to for Memorial Day, which brings me to the purpose of this post….On a day that is supposed to be for remembering our fallen soldiers, everyone seems to think it’s just about the beach, BBQ’s, pool parties and a three day weekend. Being the wife of a veteran and having friends and other family members who have served and are still serving, I find that disrespectful and it really strikes a nerve with our family.
By all means, have your parties, enjoy the weekend, have fun. I’m just asking that at some point you remember the reason you have a day off work and a longer weekend. Remember those who gave their lives and are no longer here to enjoy the simple things in life like a weekend at the beach. Just for a second, think of all the families that have lost their loved ones. For those of you who have served, are serving or have lost someone you love in service…our hearts go out to you. From our family to yours, thank you for your service.
