My Skincare Routine+Favorite Skincare Products

 Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Hey guys! Today I thought I’d share my morning/night skin care routine and some of my favorite skincare products. For the most part, my routine is the same but occasionally I’ll alter it a little depending on things like what makeup products I’m going to use, how much makeup I’m going to wear, or the weather. I start off by washing my face with the Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser I’ve been using this for years. It’s oil free, works really well for my oily skin and it’s inexpensive($4.29). I use this morning and night.Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser, Neutrogena Oil Free Face Cleanser

I follow up with the Confidence in a Cream by it Cosmetics. Since my face wash is oil free I don’t usually like to use an oil free moisturizer. When you have oily skin you don’t want everything to be oil free…that’s going to cause your skin to produce MORE oil. The confidence in a cream is one of my absolute favorite moisturizers. It absorbs into the skin quickly, wears great under makeup and it’s an anti-aging moisturizer. It’s a little pricey and I don’t feel like there’s a decent amount in the jar for the price($48) but, it’s a great moisturizer and it does make my skin look brighter. I saw a difference in the look and texture of my skin after just a few days of using it. I use this moisturizer every night as well.it Cosmetics, Confidence in a Cream Moisturizer

Another moisturizer that I like is the OLEHENRIKSEN Counter Balance Oil Control Hydrator I use this one when I need to switch up my routine because of the heat. This is a mattifying and pore minimizing moisturizer. It’s lightweight and I don’t like to wear thick, heavy moisturizers when it’s too hot out, especially under makeup. So if it’s a super hot day, I’ll use this one even if I’m not wearing makeup. It has green tea and eucalyptus in it so it feels really refreshing and somewhat tingly on the skin. This one is a little cheaper at $34.Olehenriksen oil control moisturizer

For my eye moisturizer I use the Confidence in an Eye Cream by it Cosmetics. This works pretty much the same as the face moisturizer. It’s thick and moisturizes really well. It’s a very tiny jar…like ridiculously small and only ten dollars less than the Confidence in a Cream but honestly a little goes a long way with this stuff so I’m not even mad. I use this morning and night, that never changes.it Cosmetics, Confidence in an Eye Cream

At night if I have on makeup, my favorite product to use is the Biossance Sqaulane+Antioxidant Cleansing Oil I received this a long time ago in one of my Glossy Boxes and loved it! This is one of my favorites! They’ve changed it a little since I first started using it but it still works the same. It doesn’t matter how much makeup you have on, even waterproof makeup comes off with zero effort. Surprisingly, it’s not that expensive($30).

After I wash my face I follow up with the Neutrogena Pore Refining Toner I only use this at night because it tends to dry my skin out a little even though it says that it won’t over dry. Being that I have oily skin, I don’t mind it too much. It’s affordable($8.49) and available pretty much everywhere.Neutrogena Pore Refining Toner

Moving on to face masks, there’s only two that I alternate between right now. First is my favorite, the GLAMGLOW Gravitymud Firming Treatment This stuff works wonders! The overall appearance of my skin is so much better since I’ve been using this. As with all of the GLAMGOW products….it’s expensive as hell but I feel like it’s worth it. You don’t get a lot in the jar but it’s a face mask, you’re not going to use it everyday so it’s not like you’re going to go through it too quickly. It also comes with a little brush to apply it with…so cute!GLAMGLOW GravityMud Firming Treatment, GLAMGLOW

The next face mask that I like to use is the First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Purifying Mask w/Red Clay This mask is good for oily skin. It removes excess oil and mattifies the skin. It also reduces the appearance of pores and draws out impurities. I’ve been using it in my nighttime routine for a while and I’ve noticed that my skin isn’t as oily in the morning. I love First Aid Beauty. They have products for different skin care needs at affordable prices. This particular face mask is $30.First Aid Beauty Purifying Mask, First Aid Beauty

That’s it for my face, the next two products are a body butter and a body yogurt…basically body lotion lol! The first one I’ve been using for about two weeks. It’s the Cantu Softening Body Butter I found this in WalMart for around $5.00. I’ve used Cantu products on my hair before but I didn’t know they had skin care products as well. This body butter has Shea butter, Cocoa butter and Vitamin E, it’s also free of mineral oil, parabens and sulfates. It’s super thick but it absorbs quickly and provides long-lasting moisture. Last but not least, I found what I think is the best thing ever from Aveeno! It’s their Active Naturals Daily Moisturizing Body Yogurt The one I have is Apricot & Honey which smells amazing but they also have Vanilla & Oats. I found this in Target back in May and I’ve been obsessed with it since! I love it when I find a body lotion/butter that actually provides long-lasting results. This one is pretty lightweight if you prefer something that’s not as heavy as a body butter and it only costs around $6.

Thanks for stopping by, until next time….

Urban Decay, Meltdown Makeup Remover Review

Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover Review

Hi guys! It feels like I haven’t posted in forever! Actually it’s been about two months because…well, life. But I’m back now and I wanted to do this review before I head off to Florida Friday then I’ll have tomorrow and Thursday to finish up the rest of my homework for the week. Let’s get into it…

What it is: Oil free dissolving spray containing Vitamin E

What it does: Dissolves waterproof makeup instantly

Cost: $26.00

Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover, Dissolving Spray, Review

Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover

I purchased this last month because I was actually in need of more makeup remover and I had seen this all over Instagram and Snapchat so I decided to give it ago. First off, I hate the smell. It has a strong chemical smell and it just doesn’t smell like something you’d want to put on your face. Another thing I don’t like about it is that it’s super greasy/oily. I feel like I have to wash my face two or three times to get it completely off and some scrubbing is needed which kind of defeats the purpose, because the whole point is that this product removes waterproof and hard to remove makeup without having to scrub and tug on your skin. With all that said, it does an excellent job of removing ALL makeup. I have some pretty hardcore mascaras that are a pain to wash off and even those wipe right off with this spray. So it absolutely does what it claims. Would I buy it again? I don’t think so. I really can’t get past the smell. I’m going to finish using what I have left because it works really well, but I literally hold my breath while I wipe it off my face. In my opinion there are other makeup removers that work just as well, without the horrible smell and oily residue left behind.

Feel free to comment your thoughts about this product and tell me your favorite makeup remover. Thanks for stopping by!

PLAY! By SEPHORA Favorites

Hey guys! I hope everyone’s week is off to a great start! My days seem to be running together now and I can hardly ever keep track of what day it is except for Sunday because that’s when all of my assignments are due, but during the week the struggle is REAL! Today I wanted to share a few of my favorite things from my monthly subscription to Sephora. Besides the Walmart beauty box which is seasonal, the only other beauty subscription I’ve kept is the one from Sephora.  You get to try out 5 samples and a bonus fragrance. Included in every box is a pass that adds 50 extra beauty insider points with any purchase….all for only $10 a month! I’ve received a total of 7 boxes and just picked out my absolute favorite products from about 3 of the boxes to share with you.

March 2017

GLAMGLOW Glowstarter Mega Illuminating Moisturizer “Nude Glow”-I love GLAMGLOW products so I was so happy to see this moisturizer in this month’s box. First off, it smells great! It provides just enough of an all over glow so that it looks completely natural. It definitely doesn’t give you that “BAM, in your face” highlighting effect, it’s more subtle but definitely noticeable. I highly recommend trying it out if you haven’t already! GLAMGLOW GlowStarter Moisturizer, GLAMGLOW, Sephora

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector-This is another product I was excited to get because I had been wanting to try it but I already have a ton of highlighters so I felt like I needed to use them up before buying anymore. This kinda gives the same effect as the previous product from GLAMGLOW except it’s just a little more noticeable and it can be mixed in with your moisturizer, primer, liquid foundation or you can wear it alone. I’ve mixed it in with my primer and it’s beautiful! Becca Cosmetics, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector, Sephora

January 2016

Clinique Almost Lipstick “Black Honey”-I’ve been wearing this on days when I don’t feel like wearing makeup but still want a little color on my lips and on light makeup days which I’ve been having a lot of lately. I just haven’t had time to sit down and do a full face so this product has been perfect for me. It’s lightweight, has a sheer finish and it’s moisturizing. It’s not an actual lipstick though, it’s a cross between lipstick and lip gloss so it’s definitely versatile and easy to apply.Clinique Almost Lipstick, Black Honey, Sephora

Tarte Frxxxtion Stick-This is one of the best exfoliators I’ve used. It’s not too harsh and my skin looked and felt smooth and refreshed after using it. It didn’t dry my face out like some other exfoliators tend to do. I still haven’t bought the full size but it’s on my list of things to get for my next trip to Sephora!Tarte Frxxxtion Stick, Tarte exfoliator, Sephora

December 2016

Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara-If you like your lashes blacker than black and “curled up to Jesus” as Patrick Starr would say, then you should try this mascara! I don’t think I’ve ever tried any other product from Bobbi Brown and I’m very skeptical when trying out new mascara now because I’ve had more than a few fails over the past few months but, I really like this one. It darkens and lengthens my lashes making them appear fuller with zero clump! Yes, please!!Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Smokey Eye Mascara, Sephora

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain “Always Red”-I can’t even begin to explain to you how perfect the name of the shade of this lip stain is…it’s the reddest red ever!! It’s soooo gorgeous! I tried it on once and only wore it around the house, but that was enough for me to love it. You can put this stuff on and forget it about it, it’s ridiculously long-lasting and smudge proof. It has a matte finish but it’s moisturizing. Since I haven’t been wearing much makeup lately, I haven’t had a chance to wear it out yet but I’m just dying to!Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in Always Red, Sephora

November 2016

Cover FX Illuminating Primer-I mentioned this primer in my January Favorites and it’s so worthy of another mention! It’s the same deal as the GLAMGLOW moisturizer and the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector. It can be worn alone or used as a base before applying foundation. Either way, the results are beautiful, natural looking glowing skin.Cover FX Illuminating Primer, Sephora

Thanks so much for stopping by!

February Favorites

Hey guys! I don’t know where the time is going but it’s getting away from me, *sigh. As usual, I’m a few days late with this but here’s the run down on my favorite products from February.

Milani Keep it Sweet Sugar Lip Scrub I always have to keep some kind of lip scrub handy so when I saw that Milani had one out I didn’t even think about it, I just grabbed it. It works really well and my lips feel nice and smooth afterwards. I love the way it smells. I use it every other day/night and especially before I wear any matte lipsticks. It’s $10 on the Milani website but I got it at Target for $8.99Milani, Sugar Lip Scrub, February Favorites

Maybelline Fit Me Matte+Poreless Powder So everybody has this or has tried it. I’ve seen so many good reviews and Youtube videos with this powder and from what I could tell, everyone loves it so I decided to finally try it. I got it from Target for $5.99. I’ve been wearing it alone to control oil and shine and I feel like I should’ve been using it a long time ago. It’s great. It doesn’t really do much for my pores but it does control the oil really well. I like the fact that it’s long lasting and I don’t have to reapply throughout the day. I haven’t tried it on top of foundation yet but I bought a few new liquid foundations that can’t wait to try it with.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer I picked this up for around $5 at Target, just because I bought the Fit Me powder and for other reason. It’s almost comparable to the Too Faced “Born This Way” concealer as far as the coverage, texture and consistency. It has good coverage, it’s really creamy and easy to blend into the skin. As with the Fit Me Powder…I should’ve picked this concealer up a long time ago. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer, Medium, February Favorites

Too Faced Sweet Peach Lip Oil I bought this last month when I did my huge Ulta/Sephora haul. It was $19. I got it in the shade “Papa Don’t Peach”. First of all, let me just tell you that it smells AMAZING!! Like, I want to eat it! In the description on Ulta’s website it does say that it tastes like peach, but I’m not suggesting that anyone eat it. I’ve been using this in the place of chapstick. It’s super creamy and moisturizing. This particular shade is subtle, yet noticeable so it’s perfect for everyday wear.

Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick I was so excited to get my hands on these because I love the Vice Lipsticks  and I love liquid lipsticks so I had to have these! I’ve been wearing “Conspiracy”(Metallized) which is a plum-bronze color. It looks like a deep dark purple and brown at the same time. It has little specs of gold that are just beautiful on the lips. The other shade I’ve been wearing is “Amulet”(Comfort Matte) which is a brick rose color. What I love the most is the lasting power. They seriously last all day, from morning to night. They don’t budge at all. I don’t even carry them with me when I go out because there’s no need to touch up or reapply throughout the day. They’re $18 and definitely worth it!

BareMinerals Gen Nude Liquid Lip Color & BareMinerals Gen Nude Over Under Lip Liner So this isn’t just one of my February favorites, this is currently my all time favorite liquid lipstick! I LOVE it! It’s matte but it goes on super creamy and feels really nice on the lips. It’s moisturizing so it doesn’t dry out at any point and it’s long lasting. I’ve worn this all day without having to reapply. Also, it smells good and y’all know how I feel about good smelling lipsticks! It’s only $18 and trust me I’m not complaining but I feel like it’s worth more. I’m just saying, it’s that good! As for the liner,  for $16 it’s one of the best ones I’ve come across. I love the finish and how pigmented it is. It applies easily and very creamy. I hate when a lip liner is so dry that it skips and doesn’t apply smoothly. This one is perfect!

Urban Decay B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Priming Spray  Ok, so I initially thought that this was just a regular setting spray and since I had run out of my All Nighter setting spray I just grabbed this. But, it’s not a setting spray, it’s a prep and priming/refresher spray that controls oil, balances the complexion and evens out the skin tone. You use it in the morning after washing your face but before applying moisturizer, then again at night in the same order. You can also use it during the day as a refresher and it won’t mess up your makeup. I’ve been using it daily and I’ve noticed that my skin looks brighter and healthier. My face doesn’t get quite as oily throughout the day as it used to. I use it morning and night, even when I don’t wear any makeup at all. Overtime it’s supposed to continue to reduce oil and shine, and improve the appearance of fine lines. Overall my skin does look and feel better, so I love it and I’m going to continue using it. For those of you who use any of Urban Decay’s setting sprays, this is the exact same price at $31.Urban Decay B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Priming Spray, Ulta

That’s everything that I’ve been obsessed with over the past month. I hope you enjoyed and maybe even saw something that you want to try! -Melyssa

I Cut & Straightened My Hair+New Hair Care Products

For the past 3 1/2 years I’ve been wearing my hair in its natural state which is curly. I made that choice after noticing that using a flat iron everyday had caused my hair to start breaking off. That was it, no more heat. But, over the past few months I noticed that my curls weren’t as curly and my hair was more poofy and frizzy. I literally couldn’t do anything with it other than wear it in a bun…everyday. So after going back and forth with myself for a while, I decided to cut it and wear it straight for a while before transitioning back to curls. The damage has been cut off and I know how to properly care for my hair now so I’m confident that I’ll be able to pull this look off without damaging my hair again. Curly hair is so hard to care for and it’s time consuming, not to mention the expensive curly hair products that will just about cause you to go bankrupt! I’ve never cut my hair before other than a trim here and there for split ends and I thought I was going to miss having long hair but honestly I’m loving it! It’s so much easier to deal with. wp-1487868384271.jpg

Of course with having my hair straight again that meant I had to switch up on the hair products that I had been using. My hair curls back up when I wash it but I don’t want to use products that are specifically for curly hair or anything that’s going to define my curls. So, here are the products I’m currently using…

Proclaim Jamaican Black Castor Oil ShampooProclaim Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Shampoo, Sally Beauty Supply

Proclaim Jamaican Black Castor Oil ConditionerProclaim Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Conditioner, Sally Beauty Supply

Proclaim Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-in ConditionerProclaim Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Leave-in Conditioner, Sally Beauty Supply

Proclaim Coconut Oil Anti Breakage Deep ConditionerProclaim Coconut Oil Anti-Breakage Deep Conditioner, Sally Beauty

These products seem to be working well for my hair and the best part is that they’re all under $10 and available at Sally Beauty Supply. I’m still going to experiment with different products to see what works best but for now I’m satisfied with these products and I love my new hairstyle!

Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops Review

I’m back with another not so good review of a product that I was sure I would love. As I mentioned in my last post, I bought a bunch of stuff from Ulta and Sephora a few weeks ago and this particular product was at the top of my “Must Have” list. Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops are available in 6 shades, I bought the shade “Sunlight”. These drops are supposed to add a highlighting or bronzing effect to your look. The drops can be used alone, mixed in with any liquid like your foundation, primer or moisturizer, or added on top of powder foundation.

I tried using this with no makeup, mixed in with my primers and liquid foundations but the result was always the same. It just caked up and looked flaky. It literally just sat on top of my skin and made my face look as if it were extremely dry and peeling, which wasn’t the case. It looked awful! Every time I used it I had to immediately wash my face because it completely ruined my makeup. When I used the drops without makeup, it seemed as if it was going to have a smooth application but after a few minutes I noticed that it wasn’t blending in or being absorbed into my skin, it just created a flaky layer of crust on my face. It’s a pretty lightweight liquid that looks thicker than it actually is.

This stuff is $42 which I didn’t mind at all because I had such high expectations but, that is sort of a high price for a sun-kissed glow, especially when there are less expensive products that do the same thing.  I thought this was going to end up being one of my favorite products. I really wanted to love it, especially since I do love the Cover FX Illuminating Primer. I was extremely disappointed, just another product that I have to return. Oh well,  hit or miss….that’s how it goes when trying new products. If you’ve tried these custom enhancer drops, let me know what you think! Did they work for you?
